Hi, I’m Jo.

I’m a qualified psychodynamic counsellor and coach with many years’ experience supporting people through difficult and challenging periods in their lives. I trained as a counsellor in the late 1990s and have been practising ever since.

Alongside my counselling work, much of my professional life has been spent in education, where I have worked in a variety of roles. More recently, I have worked within the Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) area of a Psychology Service. This has given me a particular interest in supporting children and young people who are neurodivergent, as well as the parents and families trying to understand and navigate their experiences.

I am also a trained coach and have completed training with ATTUNED, I have a Certificate in Neurodiversity Coaching, accredited by the Association for Coaching.

Background

Coaching Style/Special Interests
My approach
I believe that there is no single way of being, learning or succeeding. Rather than trying to make someone fit into a system that isn't working for them, I aim to understand the individual and help them find approaches that work with who they are.
My counselling background means that I can offer space to explore emotions, experiences and relationships at a deeper level, while my coaching work brings a more practical, forward-looking focus when that is what someone needs.
Most importantly, I aim to offer a warm, accepting and non-judgemental space where people can feel heard, understood and supported.
Whether you are an adult struggling with aspects of your life, a young person trying to make sense of yourself and the world around you, or a parent looking for support in helping your neurodivergent child, I would be very happy to talk to you about how I might help.
Due to my education background, I also work with parents who may be feeling overwhelmed or unsure about how best to support their child at school or if they are out of school. Navigating the education system can be particularly challenging, and I can offer a listening ear alongside practical guidance and support to help families find a way forward.
